The system enables the identification and quantification of 22 common allergens in fragrance compounds by GC-MSD-SIM technique with the use of 2 columns and purged splitter. It is based on the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standard and has the particularity of using the Agilent variable Split system, applied in a novel way for the alternate analysis of two columns, which are connected to two injectors at the same MSD. This allows an extension of the application for GC-MSD, constituting a powerful tool in the analysis of a large number of allergens without column changes, with conditions of simple separation and with ample opportunities to avoid co-elutions of these compounds. This is accomplished by alternating the analysis such that while the first column performs the separation, the second one is maintained in rest conditions with a low flow.
The column 1 allows separating allergens of the groups A and B, the column 2 being needed to separate citral, cinnamic aldehyde and hydroxycitronellal of group A. The results show the system's ability to separate 22 allergens in a single sequence analysis, with good selectivity using a unique configuration of 2 columns connected to the microfluidic splitter and the MSD (SIM/SCAN) as detection system.
