Purge and Trap
The purge and trap technique, is used for analysis of volatile organic compounds in both liquid and solid samples. The system has a first purge step of the sample with an inert gas (helium or nitrogen). VOCs released are deposited into a trap, which is then desorbed by temperature, transferring VOCs to GC or GC/MS. This technique is common in EPA water analysis methods.
