The Headspace technique is used for the analysis of volatile organic compounds in both liquid and solid samples. Samples are introduced in a closed vial with air, then thermal equilibrium between the sample and the gas phase is carried out. Once you reach the thermodynamic equilibrium, with a syringe or dosing system part of the sample vapor is removed and inserted directly into the GC injector or column head.
